By now there are very few people who have not embraced some sort of social media.  Whether you tweet, use Facebook, love Pinterest or even prefer LinkedIn, everyone has some sort of connection to one of today’s popular social media sites.  With that said more and more people want to do more than just have a profile page, but would rather work for one of these companies.

The allure being very simple, everyone wants to work for a company that employs the “Google model” of work environment.  Though it is more than just the massages at lunch, and the office scooters, a lot of it has to do with work environment.  More and more companies are adopting the “Google model” for their dress codes and overall workplace structures.  Gone are the days of the “Mad Men” three-piece suits, in their place are blue jeans and fitted retro tees.  Also with these changes, some companies have moved away from the cubicles of Silicon Valley and are now embracing the common desk where four or more people share a larger work desk emphasizing teamwork and team spirit.

One such company is Sirius XM Radio.  Boasting over 24 million paying customers and offices across the nation including New York and Washington D.C., Sirius is a firm believer in this employee comfort model.  As a satellite radio provider Sirius XM Radio has a strong need for young talented employees to join their staff, for roles within their IT departments as well as the finance teams.  In order to attract talented individuals, Sirius XM Radio embraces this team-first mentality by providing a casual, modern and music-themed workplace environment.  It doesn’t hurt that Sirius’s office are a frequent stop for some of the biggest celebrities in the music and entertainment industry, offering an opportunity for staff to meet and mingle with many different types of celebrities.

FDM began its partnership with Sirius XM Radio this past January, after over a year of negotiations and meetings.  Value was found between both companies, as FDM currently has 9 Java developers working in various groups and on various projects in both New York and in Washington D.C. Ideal candidates not only have to be technically sound, but also because of the open team environment, must have outgoing personalities.  As the environment is causal, team oriented candidates must be able to communicate with different teams and team members at all times in order to meet deadlines and help one another.

As the partnership between FDM and Sirius XM Radio grows so will the demand for more qualified candidates. If you think you can be productive in a modern, team oriented environment, where the CIO can walk in one day and Lady Gaga the next, then Sirius may be a good fit for you.  Moving forward in 2012, FDM looks to expand its Media and Entertainment client base, with such prospects as the MTV networks, ESPN and the GO networks (ABC & Disney) as well as Major League Baseball’s advanced media group.  For more information please contact the FDM group for more opportunities such as this one.
